Teen Kayak Camp

Our two week teen camp emphasizes three major areas, Spanish language instruction, river safety and decision making combined with great play paddling and river running. There will be time each evening devoted to studying and homework so that your teen won’t fall behind in classes back home. There will also be a presentations each evening on the Spanish language and some aspect of Chilean culture.

The town of Futaleufu, situated deep in the Andes mountains offers an unprecedented cultural immersion experience. Your will get to experience a genuine Patagonia pueblo that is relatively untouched by visitors and way off the international tourist paths. More than just an adventure vacation, perspectives gained by your teen about nature and a simple lifestyle with a minimum of material possessions will leave a lifelong impression.

Our program is designed for teens ages 13 to 17 of varying skill levels and abilities. Each day we will run a Class II-III trip and a Class III-IV trip on a different river or river section in the Futaleufu valley. The exact itinerary will be determined by water levels, the group’s paddling ability, and the individual paddling goals of your teen. Generally the weeks will follow a similar progression as our Kayak Chile Week - Class II-III Futaleufu Valley Week - Class III-IV guided trips. River safety and play paddling will be the main focus of each of our groups.

We will also have a beginner level group that will teach your teen the basics of whitewater kayaking. During the first week the beginner group will follow the itinerary of our New Kayaker Week of kayak school. Here we will work on the fundamentals of the kayak roll, boat control and river reading to give your teen a strong fundamental foundation in the sport of whitewater kayaking.

Occasionally we will have teens join us who are expert class V paddlers. Any teen interested in running the Class V sections of the Futaleufu must have prior written permission from a parent or legal guardian.



Our instructors are veteran teachers and river professionals who have taught at some of the most prestigious kayak schools in the United States and Canada. Combined with our twenty year history of running whitewater kayak trips in the Futaleufu valley your teen will have an experience they will remember for a lifetime.
