Ride Across Chile: Andes to the Ocean Expedition

Day 1: Saturday: Arrival & Introductions
Arrive at either of our entry points in Puerto Montt, Chile or Esquel, Argentina, the gateway cities to your Patagonia horseback riding adventure. Connect with our representative and travel to the remote riverside town of Futaleufu, surrounded by majestic mountains. You will find your accommodations at our comfortable native wood lodge, and unwind from your trip with a hearty welcome dinner at the Futaleufu Adventure Center. (If you are doing the return journey we will meet you in Chaiten.)



Day 2: Orientation to Chilean Tack, Saddles & Corralero Horse
Sleep in late and after breakfast we will walk you to our local ranch for an introduction to the art of horseback riding in Patagonia and the Chilean Corralero horse. We will also introduce you to the Chilean saddles and tack make sure all fits well and that your mount is suitable. We will then ride off for a training ride to Piedra de Aguila, a rock outcrop overlook. Afterwards, with our horses loaded up we will begin our trip across the Andes Mountains.

Day 3–7: Monday to Friday: Traversing the Andes on Horseback
The next five days will be spent crossing the Andes Mountains from the Argentine border to the Pacific Coast. Participants will ride through temperate rainforests and high mountain passes. We will see overhanging glaciers, extinct volcanoes, and waterfalls, and traverse swollen rivers and streams. In the higher elevations the group will likely encounter cold temperatures and snow, eventhough the trip is taking place in the high Patagonia Summer. The horseback riding traverse will involve wilderness camping in very remote regions. All of the gear will be carried on packhorses. The group will arrive in Chaiten on Friday afternoon or evening. This is a horseback riding vacation you won't soon forget!



Day 8: Saturday: Departure
After breakfast, explore Chaiten for a few hours. A quick shuttle takes you to the airport for your flight back to Puerto Montt, unless you decide you just can't leave and want to return to Futaleufu for more fun in "The World's Greatest Playground!" You will have just experienced in one week what some folks won't experience in a lifetime.

*This Patagonia horseback riding vacation is run for two weeks back-to-back. The return trip will go in reverse from Chaiten to Futaleufu.
