and desires. During our twenty year history of running trips in Patagonia,
Chile we have hosted numerous family vacations to rave reviews. Many
of our families return for repeat visits and one family has even come
back eight years in a row!
The upper and lower stretches of the Futaleufu, Rio Espolon and Rio Azul offer a perfect blend of moderate whitewater and outdoor adventure for families with children ages 8 and older. There are also sea kayaking, horseback riding, kayak school, fly fishing, trekking and mountain biking options available – allowing you to completely customize your vacation. This also allows family members with different desires and ability levels to enjoy the same vacation.
For families with pre-school children we provide suitable activities for that age group and have nannies available to watch after the children while parents are off running the river or participating in other multi-sport activities.
The town of Futaleufu, situated deep in the Andes mountains offers an unprecedented cultural immersion experience. The entire family will get to experience a genuine Patagonia pueblo that is relatively untouched by visitors and way off the international tourist paths. Watch each morning as the villagers depart by horseback for their jobs and the children ride off to school. Stroll the village square and shop the market for genuine Chilean wool goods. In February the town hosts an annual rodeo in the Chilean style where real hausos (Chilean cowboys) come to compete and test their skills & horsemanship. So of our guest have compared Futaleufu to Telluride, Colorado – how it must have been one hundred years ago!
